Lvcas Fiat is a Naturalist Designer, Visual Artist, Conservationist, and National Geographic explorer. The Brazilian specialises in photographing the dark nights of the Amazon Rainforest. In his photographs, the TED speaker, seeks out new and rare mantises, as well as witnessing the beauty of wildlife in the forest alongside his husband Leo Lanna.
Only in Brazil, it is estimated that there are 700 species of mantises, with only 250 recorded. Cataloguing the numerous species of the animal has been motivating Lvcas for the past 7 years. The photographer understands how challenging his goal of cataloguing the species is, however, sees the challenge as rewarding as he ventures almost daily into the mysterious natural world of tropical forests.
With his independent organization, Mantis Projects, and his agency OOTECA, Lvcas uses his art to expand people's perception and their understanding of the planet. By combining science and design, he draws attention to the discoveries and stories of the Amazon and tropical forests and their inhabitants.
The Brazilian also extends his skills to other initiatives, such as the Juruá Institute, and Documenting Threatened Species (DoTS), where his artistic and creative approach transforms public perception of value into knowledge and preservation.
