Charles Emogor is a 2024 Schmidt Science Fellow using machine learning to study patterns of poaching in Sub-Saharan African national parks, with his work based at University of Cambridge’s Department of Computer Science and Technology and John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University.
He has a PhD in Zoology (University of Cambridge) and an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management from Oxford University. His PhD on the dynamics of pangolin exploitation in Nigeria involved working with the Nigeria Customs Service and hunters and vendors who operate illegally. Charles founded Pangolin Protection Network, a Nigerian non-profit dedicated to pangolin conservation. In 2021, he ran in a pangolin suit for eight straight hours to raise funds for and awareness of pangolins. Charles is an EC50 honoree in the Class of 2025.
